(The City of Three Mists) Mae Hong Son is located in a deep valley covered in by high mountain ranges. Mae Hong Son has long been isolated from the outside environment. It is the most mountainous province in Thailand and compressed of almost 13, 814 square kilometers. It is basically covered with mist throughout the year. The name reflects to the truth that this terrain is highly useful and helpful for the training session of elephants. A previous governor of Chiang Mai always organized the rounding up of wild elephants which were then trained prior to being sent to the capital city for work. At present, Mae Hong Son is one of the “dream destinations” for visitors. It is the first destination choice of every tourist. Daily flights into its small airport bring increasing numbers of tourists, attracted by the natural beauty, amazing scenery, various hill-tribe communities and finest adventure chances.

The Thai citizens are famous for their tolerance and patience, warm welcome and joyfulness. They will pay no attention to the small mistake of social customs that you are assured to make. The Thais put great value on personal cleanliness and appearance. Tank tops, singlet, shorts and the similar to are considered improper dress in all places apart from at the beach. Moving topless or naked at the seaside (or anywhere else) is considered as disrespect to the local public. It’s also against the law.

When going to someone’s residence or at certain offices and shops, it’s gracious to take away your shoes at the door. If you see shoes arranged on the floor at the door, don’t kill time to be asked- remove your shoes before entering.

When it is heavy rain or floods in Bangkok, don’t bother to put on a heavy raincoat. Put on something light and cool, a pair of plastic shoes and do not forget to get your umbrella, just like the Thais. The temperature in Bangkok occasionally gets up to 40 degrees with high humidity. Get along plenty of bottled when you’re going to places of interest. Dark glasses and sunscreen are required at all times. Sightseeing in the high temperature all day can be tiring, physically and mentally. Refresh yourself with a long-established Thai massage at one of the several shops around town or at your hotel.
